Main paper are summarized to “earth roll” “water roll” “fire roll”. Earth roll explains style of classical Japanese swordsmanship involving use of two swords. Water roll explains self training to overcome enemy. Fire roll explains various tactics with battle. Wind roll mainly criticize other style. sky roll is added to this book for appearance.

I compare military art to the way of carpenter and express that. Carpenter means to devise largely in Japanese. The way of military art is to devise largely so that I compare military art to carpenter and write down it. I compare general to master of carpenter. General understand laws which govern world and he behave to straighten the laws of the country.

Master of carpenter have to measure the length of yard and design the building and build a house to instruct subordinate. In case carpenter build a house, they have to select timber every materials and use timber properly every places. For example, good timber is used to front pillar and timber which is a little weaker is used to doors and shoujis and threshold.

To instruct subordinate, according to his skill, more skilled people are deployed to more difficult place and less skilled people are deployed to easy place. Master is demanded decisiveness and good dexterity and concentration and the sense of right person to right place and make sure of subordinate’s guts and to know the impossible. Essence of military art is similar to that. To master military art, you have to speculate this book and master who is needle and disciple who is string have to practice constantly.

In this way people who can deal with long sword is called military art master. Bow and gun and spear and halberd are also tools of warrior so that they are also the way of military art.
But there are reasons that I call long sword is military art. Long sword is sacred and have virtue and govern world and cultivate samurai so that is called military art. In my school military art reckon one person equal to ten thousand people therefore laws of samurai are all called military art. Even if your way is not laws of samurai, once you spread your military art, you may encounter many things. In any case all human have to cultivate the way each other.

People who understand the advantage of weapons have to use all weapons in accordance with time and situation. Short sword have advantage in narrow place and beside enemies.
On the other hand long sword have advantage in any case. Other halberd and spear and bow also have advantage according to the place. Any of weapons have special size and shape which can demonstrate the function the most. You have to use any weapons properly and flexibly. You have to equip your proper weapon.

Everything have rhythm and especially you can not master rhythm of military art without training. In way of martial art shooting a bow and shooting a gun and riding a horse have each rhythms. You must not go against rhythm in various arts and various abilities.
Moreover invisible matter also have rhythm.

Rhythms of military art have variation. At first you have to understand opponent and understand different rhythm. It is most important in military art to understand rhythm
to hit and rhythm of distance and rhythm to rebound in big and small and slow and fast rhythms. In battle of military art due to understand rhythm of enemy and due to rhythm which enemy never come up with that you can win enemy to regard rhythm of air as rhythm of wisdom. I write down rhythms in any rolls. You have to train well to learn that.
